Sandrinos, what are you doing?

After always being reliable for good friendly service and good food that is not too expensive, something has changed at Sandrinos. We've been using them for our regular family dinners for about a year now, but the last two visits saw us turn around and walk out again due to the very poor service on arrival.

When you walk in from the street, it would be nice to be greeted with a smile and have the waitstaff actually make an effort to talk & be friendly as they show you to your table. Sadly this was not the case when a group of 7 of us walked in from the street about a month ago. It was a Monday night, not late, and there were tables available. However, having the waitress literally toss the menus down in front of each person without so much as a word or a smile, we decided that welcome was less than lukewarm and all decided to take our business elsewhere. I mean, seriously, my menu came sliding across the table to land in my lap just as she turned on her heel and walked away!

This week we decided to give them another try, this time only two of us. It was a little cool out, so we had decided to sit inside, which was quite lucky as we weren't asked where we would like to sit. The only response to our request for a table for two was a short "yeah sure". The waitress (a different one this time) grabbed some menus and we took our cue to follow her. This time she plonked the menus on the table and without missing a stride, carried on walking away from us and disappeared somewhere else in the restaurant. Hmmm, she hadn't even looked back to see that we had recognised it as our table, which was just as well for her I suppose, because she didn't see us turn and walk straight out again.

Come on Sandrinos, you've done much better than this before. We won't be trying you out again for quite a while. In the meantime, we got a delightful reception both times at Portorosa next door.
